Cinematic drone filming at DP World London Gateway, captured by Emmy-winning FPV pilot and drone cinematographer Lewis Whyld. The project used close-proximity FPV movement and wider aerial cinematography to reveal the scale, complexity and constant movement of one of the UK’s largest container ports, flying around cranes, container stacks, transport routes and active logistics infrastructure. Working inside a live industrial environment required detailed coordination, careful route planning and precise control around large machinery, vehicles and restricted operational areas.

Flying Drones Through a Live Container Port

London Gateway presented a very different FPV challenge from a controlled commercial location. The site is continuously active, with container movements, cranes, trucks and other heavy machinery operating across a large industrial footprint.
The FPV flying was designed to move much closer to that infrastructure than a conventional aerial overview, using the scale of cranes, containers and transport routes to create depth and movement within the shots.
That required careful coordination around live operations and constant awareness of how machinery and vehicles were moving through the site. Flight paths had to work with the port rather than interrupt it, while still allowing the aircraft to pass through visually complex industrial spaces.
The result was a more immersive view of London Gateway — not just showing the size of the terminal from above, but moving through the systems and structures that keep it operating.

Drones for Industrial, Logistics & Infrastructure Filming

The London Gateway project shows how drones and FPV can be used inside large operational environments where the story depends on understanding how different parts of the site connect.
Lewis combined close-proximity FPV with wider aerial cinematography to move between container handling, transport routes, cranes and other major pieces of port infrastructure, giving the viewer both scale and detail within the same production.
For industrial and logistics clients, this kind of approach can make highly complex facilities easier to understand visually. FPV can follow routes through the site and move between machinery and infrastructure, while conventional drone systems provide the wider context needed to show the overall operation.
At London Gateway, the result was a more dynamic view of the port as a working system rather than simply a collection of large structures.
