Designing the High-Speed FPV Chase

The Castle Combe shoot was built around matching the speed and movement of the bikes. The FPV and drone routes were designed to run alongside and behind the riders through full laps, using low-level pursuit flying to stay visually connected to the action through acceleration, braking and fast cornering.

Tracking British Superbike riders at race pace demanded constant anticipation. The aircraft had to match changing speed and line while maintaining safe separation and smooth framing, particularly through sections of the circuit where the bikes were accelerating hard or changing direction quickly.

Completing full laps alongside riders such as Charlie Nesbitt turned the FPV drone into a genuine moving camera platform within the action. The result was a much more immersive perspective on superbike performance - showing the speed, precision and physicality of the riding from a position conventional aerial filming cannot easily achieve.

I use FPV to track fast-moving subjects at close range, matching speed and direction while creating camera movement that feels embedded in the action. That experience includes superbikes, drifting and circuit work, as well as other productions where the aircraft needs to accelerate, brake and change line with the subject.

For motorsport and action-sport productions, FPV is particularly effective when the brief calls for a stronger sense of speed, proximity and momentum - placing the viewer alongside the rider or vehicle rather than observing the action from a distant aerial perspective.
